Malware Annoying Scam Scam Phishing

How cautious are you and your team when it comes to online security? We all know about phishing, dodgy downloads and suspicious links. However, there is a new sneaky malware on the rise that will annoy you into giving up your Google login.

This malware doesn’t have a name yet but it is part of a larger threat that is known as ‘Amadey’ which has been on the rise since August.

It forces your PC into something called ‘kiosk mode’. This is a setting that is often used on public computers that only lets you access one window. This allows it to lock your browser in full screen mode. This hides all of your usual navigation buttons like the address bar and menus. You then get sent to a fake Google password reset page.

This setting also means that you cannot use the normal ways of getting out of full screen mode such as hitting the Esc or F11 key. If this malware has infected your PC it wants to confuse you into thinking you must enter your password to solve the problem.

The password reset page will also look extremely convincing and like a real Google page. The second that you type in your details, they will be stolen and in the hands of cyber criminals.

It is not all bad news though. You can actually break free! There are a few ways you can try.

  1. Try pressing ALT + TAB to switch tasks
  2. Try pressing ALT + F4 to force the window to close
  3. Open the task manager by pressing CTR + ALT + DELETE to force close the window.

If none of this works you can also restart your PC by holding down the power button or unplugging it. We would recommend getting an expert to check your PC if you have been a victim of this.

Prevention is always the best approach, so be wary if your computer starts behaving strangely. Avoid clicking on suspicious links or downloading attachments that you are not sure about. Also make sure that you never enter your login details to a site that you are not 100% sure is legit.
