How concerned should you be about cybercrime
You may feel like you are constantly hearing about cyber attacks lately, we have certainly been talking about it a lot as have many other people. This is because cyber attacks are on the rise.
In fact, cyber attacks have overtaken other risks as the number one concern for many businesses worldwide. Cyber threats can range from data breaches, downtime, IT disruptions to ransomware and it is causing a lot of businessowners to lose sleep.
Imagine losing access to your entire customer database, sensitive information leaked and even being completely locked out of your system until you pay a huge ransom fee. These aren’t made up scenarios, these are real threats businesses face on the daily. If your business becomes a victim of a cyber-attack, the impact could be devastating and you could be faced with losing your business entirely and if not, it can lead to anything from financial to a damaged reputation.
The problem is that your business is up against some clever criminals. Advancements in technology such as AI have given cyber criminals access to more sophisticated tools, making it easier to launch attacks as well as making their attempts harder to spot. However, whilst cyber threats are evolving, so are the tools designed to combat them. Whilst AI may help the criminals, it can also help power technologies to provide better insights and to detect threats earlier.
It is important not to pin your entire security on technology though (no matter how much we love it). It is crucial to remember that your first line of defence is your employees. They need to be trained to understand the risk and to recognise potential threats.
Cybercrime is an important thing to be aware of and to be concerned about, but that’s a good thing. Being concerned means that you are able to better protect your business, keep informed and invest in strong security and back up measures.
