Most businesses don’t decide to change IT provider – they get pushed. The push usually starts small: a ticket that sits for a week, an invoice with a surprise on it, a nagging feeling that you’re the one chasing.
1. You’re the one doing the chasing
Good IT support chases you. If you’re keeping a mental list of things you’ve reported and heard nothing back about, the relationship is upside down.
2. Every fix is a repeat fix
The same printer, the same email problem, the same ‘have you turned it off and on again’. Repeat issues mean nobody is looking for the cause – just clearing tickets.
The real success of IT support is the number of times you prevent issues from happening – not the number of issues you fix.
3. Invoices are a surprise
If you can’t predict your IT spend to the pound, you’re on the old break/fix model. Modern support is a fixed monthly fee that covers the lot.
4. Security is ‘we’ve got antivirus’
Antivirus on its own hasn’t been enough for a decade. If nobody has mentioned multi-factor authentication, phishing training or backups lately, nobody is thinking about them.
5. Your team has stopped reporting things
The quietest warning sign of all. When people stop raising issues because ‘nothing ever happens’, you’re carrying risk you can’t see.
